Batad Rice Terraces is one the famous terrace cluster of Banaue, Ifugao Province. It is the most spectacular landscape in Philippines. This secluded amphitheatre-like terrace were carved out of the mountains by ancestors of the old people of Ifugao 200 years ago without the aid of machinery. As part of Banaue Rice Terraces in the Philippines, the Batad Rice Terraces is considered as the Unesco World Heritage Site. It is also know as the Eight Wonder of the World in the Philippines because it is one of the well known tourist attraction. Batad Rice Terraces is unique in its height, steepness and intricacy.
Batad Rice Terraces is situated in the town of Batad, Banaue about 350 Kilometers north of Manila. To get there one must take the 12 Km rough road trip from Banaue and an hour hike from the saddle to reach the breathtaking view of Batad Rice Terraces. For overnight guest, several lodges, inns, stores, restaurants and budget accommodation are found in the town.
Bangaan Rice Terraces is another famous terrace cluster in Banaue Ifugao. It is located in the village of Bangaan just a few kilometers away from Batad Rice Terraces. From the village, one can witness the majestic view of Bangaan. Unlike the Batad Rice Terraces, which is amphitheatre-like terraces, Bangaan is more expansive and organized.
Bangaan Rice Terraces is a hand curved mountainsides that look like a giant stairways to the sky, most of the people of Ifugao called it “Stairway to heave”. Like Batad Rice Terraces, it is also inscribed on the Unesco World Heritage. At the top of Bangaan Rice Terraces, one will witness the unobstructed view of lush green surrounding, beautiful rice terraces, the warmth of the Ifugao, the cool climate and the interesting culture. The best time of year to visit is from December to April when it’s dry and warm.
